The Play Valet

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 June 2021

1. Who are we?

The Play Valet is a platform intended to help people get the most out of tabletop gaming. It is a production of Legacy of Play (“we”, “us”, “our”, and “company”), who can reached via email at hello@legacyofplay.com. It is comprised of several sites, services, and applications.

We do everything in our power to collect only what information we need, and to protect that information and your right to privacy. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at the email above.

When you visit this website or use the Play Valet application(s), you trust us with personal information. We take that trust (and your privacy) very seriously. This document is intended to explain as clearly as possible what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it.

We hope you take some time to read through this carefully, as it is important. If there are any terms in this Policy that you do not agree with, please stop using the Play Valet platform.

This Privacy Policy applies to all information collected through the Play Valet platform, websites (e.g. playvalet.app), and mobile applications (“sites”, “services”, “apps”, and “platform”).

2. What information do we collect?

When you access any part of The Play Valet platform, we automatically collect information about how the platform is being used. This information may include device information (provided by your operating system, browser, or intermediate hardware) such as IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, location, time of access, how you use our services and apps, and other technical information.

This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of, improve the stability and performance of, or develop new features for our services and apps.

If you elect to sign up for an optional Play Valet account, we collect and retain the email address you sign up with. This address is retained to notify customers of service-related issues, for authentication, and—also optionally and at your discretion—for marketing purposes.

During the use of our apps, you may enable the use of device features such as the camera, GPS location, push notifications, and other features. These are optional and enable additional features of the platform, such as scanning barcodes. Our access to and permission over these features of your device can be configured in the device's settings.

3. How do we use your information?

We use personal information collected via the Play Valet platform, services, and apps for the following legitimate business needs:

  1. Authentication: If you sign up for a Play Valet account, that email address is used to sign in to Play Valet applications.

  2. Notification: We may use your email address to notify you of important or urgent information, such as updates to this Privacy Policy.

  3. To protect our services: Some of the information we collect enables us to keep the platform as secure as possible, e.g. to monitor for malicious traffic patterns.

  4. To improve our services: We may use the information we collect to improve our services, such as data analysis and identifying trends in how the platform is used. This data is anonymized and aggregated, disassociated from any individual end user, and does not include and personally identifiable information.

4. Will your information be shared with anyone?

We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena (including in response to public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements).

Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

When you interact with other users on the platform, we share the information required for those interactions.

We may share your data with third-party service providers of essential and requested features of the platform. For example, the information may be stored in a database hosted by a third party. This provider does not have access to that information, though we still technically share that information via the standard API of the database itself.

We share your information with third-party services you tell us to. For example, if you synchronize your Play Valet library with another platform like BoardGameGeek, we will send that information as requested.

In the unlikely event Legacy of Play as a company or The Play Valet as a platform is bought by another company, all current and active accounts may be transferred as a result of that merger, sale, or acquisition.

5. How long do we keep your information?

We only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary to achieve the purposes described in this Policy.

When we no longer have a business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it as soon as technically possible.

6. How do we keep your information safe?

We have implemented appropriate security measures designed to protect any personal information we process. However, remember that we cannot guarantee that the Internet itself is 100% secure. We will do our best to protect your personal information; transmission of personal information between your devices and the rest of The Play Valet platform is at your own risk. You should only access the services within a secure environment.

7. Is your information transferred internationally?

Our servers are located in the United States. If you are accessing the Play Valet platform from outside the US, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in those servers, and transmitted back to and to anyone you interact with, even in other countries.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom (UK), then the data protection laws may not be as comprehensive in the US as they currently are in the country you access the platform from. We will take all necessary measures to protect your personal information as outlined in this Policy.

8. Do we collect information from minors?

We do not knowingly solicit information from, nor do we market to, children under 18 years of age. By using The Play Valet platform, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the platform. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we have collected from children under age 18, please contact us at hello@legacyofplay.com.

9. What are your privacy rights?

You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time. As described above, we will then delete all of your personal information as quickly as technically possible. To terminate your account, please contact us.

If you are resident in the European Economic Area and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority. You can find their contact details here: http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/bodies/authorities/index_en.htm.

If you are a resident of California, you are granted specific rights regarding access to your personal information. California Civil Code Section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine The Light” law, permits our users who are California residents to request and obtain from us, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we shared personal information in the immediately preceding calendar year.

10. Do we make updates to this Policy?

We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform and our business evolves. The updated version will be posted on The Play Valet website, indicated with a more recent “Updated” date. The new version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to the Policy, we will try to notify you as we are able.

11. How can you contact us about this Policy?

If you have questions or comments about this policy, you may contact our Data Protection Officer (DPO), Michael Schoonmaker, by email at hello@legacyofplay.com, or by mail to: Legacy of Play, attn. Michael Schoonmaker, 3150 Orleans St #28791 Bellingham, WA 98228 United States.
